Cookie policy
Version 2.7 · Last updated 27 September 2026
This page explains the small number of cookies and similar storage Fred uses, and why there's no cookie banner to click through.
Does Fred use tracking cookies?
No. Fred uses no advertising or tracking cookies, no analytics trackers, and nothing that follows you around the web. That's why there's no cookie consent banner: the law only requires one for non-essential cookies, and every cookie Fred sets is one the service can't work without.
The public website sets no cookies at all. The cookies below are set only once you sign in to the app. The website does keep two other things on your device, neither of them a tracker: a note remembering you've dismissed the demo banner, and a copy of the pages you've visited, stored by Fred's offline worker so an engineer can open Fred on site with no signal.
What does Fred set, then?
Four cookies, all strictly functional:
| Name | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
| fred_session | Keeps you signed in to your workspace. Set when you sign in. | 30 days |
| fred_wa_challenge | Holds the one-time challenge while a passkey sign-in completes. | 5 minutes |
| fred_mbx_oauth | Keeps the connection secure while your firm links its sending mailbox. | 10 minutes |
| fred_acct_oauth | Keeps the connection secure while your firm links its accounting system. | 10 minutes |
Each one exists so the service works. None is shared with anyone, and none is used for advertising or profiling.
Anything stored in the browser itself?
A couple of notes live in your browser's own storage rather than as cookies:
- Whether you've dismissed the demo banner, kept for the browsing session so it doesn't reappear on every page.
- An in-progress visit checklist, so a page refresh on site doesn't lose your round. It stays on your device.
- Copies of the pages you've opened and the app's own files, kept by Fred's offline worker so the app still opens and shows your round when you've no signal. It reads what's there; nothing is sent anywhere, and no record is written while you're offline.
Can I clear them?
Yes. Signing out removes your session cookie, and clearing site data for fredfireops.co.uk in your browser removes the rest. You'll just need to sign in again.
Changes to this policy
If we add anything that sets a cookie, we'll update this page and the date at the top, and add a consent banner if the law calls for one.
